skate the line by s.j. sylvis — a review
Do you know the feeling of praying for a book to never end?
This is exactly how I felt when reading Skate The Line by S.J. Sylvis.
I wanted more! So much more.
If you love a good single dad, grumpy X sunshine, hockey romance, then this is the book for you.
Rhodes Volkova is both a grumpy hockey player and a secret softie for those he loves. Single dad to his cute daughter, Ellie, he is in search of a reliable nanny… and that’s when he finally finds Sunny.
According to Rhodes, Allison Edwards, aka Sunny, is the ray of sunshine (yes, he calls her Sunshine, and yes, I melted the second I read that).
Not only is she a great nanny, but she is also one of the purest souls ever, and I genuinely loved her character.
After his past nannies got too close to him, Rhodes is determined to keep things strictly professional from now on. So naturally, at the start, getting to know Sunny as more than just Ellie’s nanny is out of the question for him. But given the obvious chemistry between them, it is impossible for them not to feel attracted to each other like magnets.
This story is simply amazing. And even though I loved it all, here are a few things that I particularly enjoyed:
Sunny’s past creates depth in the story, and Rhodes understands this, helping her deal with it in an extremely heartwarming way.
Ellie and Sunny’s bond keeps the story sweet. Ellie used to have a hard time trusting people, especially her nannies, but Sunny (being Sunny) restores Ellie’s trust in people.
Rhodes’ teammates make the story extremely amusing, and the way they tease Rhodes is super fun.
Rhodes and Sunny’s characters, individually and together, are absolutely perfect.
The nicknames & little praises in Russian… oooff.
And the spice scenes, omg — both very well written and very amazing.
The texts between Rhodes and Sunny are hilarious and (more than just) sometimes sexy.
Rhodes is one of my favourite fictional single dads, and Sunny is one of the kindest female main characters I have read about in a while. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great romance!
